In the trade centre in Yiwu, a young Chinese woman and an American man are hard at work. While he makes phone calls, she polishes his shoes. They are cut out for their jobs: she's bent over and subservient, while he's spread-eagled, fat and loud, unashamed despite his bare feet. An industrial murmur drowns out any possibility for human communication. According to the subtitles, the man is talking about business transactions and large sums of money. If the relationship between the People's Republic of China and the United States of America is indeed an important factor in the development of world relations in the 21st century, filmmaker James T. Hong doesn't believe things are looking all that good. With his low point of view, he chooses for the woman polishing shoes. Like a gigantic gorilla, the businessman comes up to him to make him stop filming. (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
