W okopach Stalingradu

July 1942. Three comrades-in-arms are retreating to Stalingrad, where new troops are already being formed. The front-lone is approaching the city, the fighting is already going on in the streets. In Stalingrad one of the friends, Kerzhentsev, meets a young doctor Lyusya. He dreams of a peaceful life as an engineer, but the war has no respect for people's hopes.
