Diálogos Depois do Fim

"…the wild is what we lack (…) what we don’t know." That "wild", as described by celebrated Italian author Cesare Pavese, takes on many different meanings in Tiago Guedes’ epic work. Created for television and unfolding across 19 chapters, Diálogos depois do fim is an adaptation of Pavese’s 1947 text "Dialoghi con Leucò", a series of conversations between classical Greek characters. In the version screening here, Guedes has chosen five chapters to form a singular, chamber version of the full-length work. A large ensemble features in Guedes’ adaptation of Pavese’s text, with characters ranging from mortals to gods, creating ‘a conversation between divinity and humanity’ – an attempt to reconcile the artist with the place in the world. Shot across a range of locations, harnessing nature as a way of conveying the full scope of the writing – one of Pavese’s final works, that he was arguably most proud of and a copy of which he was carrying when he committed suicide – Guedes’ immerses us in these conversations in order to bring enlightenment to the ambiguities and elliptical nature of the writer’s extraordinary work.
