The last time I was treated to a similar experience was with Haneke’s The White Ribbon. Jackal of Nahueltoro is a cold, brilliantly edited psychoanalysis of the personality of a savage sociopathic murderer, his awareness of the acts he committed, and the detailed preparation for his execution. It is a complex, impartial, mature and provocatively controversial film. But do not look here for the emotions that you know from mainstream genres.
