Thirteen-year-old Janni is grief-stricken because she isn't taken seriously by the pupils in her school class. Janni is so inconspicuous that one would think that she was "invisible" - she also perceives herself as being indistinct. Not only does Michael, the heart-throb of all the girls, pay her absolutely no attention - which Janni finds especially distressing - but there is yet another embarrassing misfortune that Janni has to face: in front of the entire student body. A film director, taking Janni for a boy, chooses her for the role of the prince in a fairytale film. However Janni finally does decide to play the role of the prince, and she finds that she much enjoys working on the film. And now that she has met Sebastian, her thoughts of Michael quickly vanish. In light of the film crew's sympathetic treatment of Janni and their praise of her work, the "hare's heart" gradually learns - albeit with the help of a little white lie - to assert herself in school. But now that the film production is over, Janni must once again prove her own self worth, and she does this by inviting her schoolmates to the film's premiere. (Progress Film-Verleih)
