High Fidelity is a vivacious and intimate portrait of the most prominent string quartet in the world. The film is the product of the latest cooperation between Allen Miller and Walter Scheuer. This team was responsible for the Academy Award winning film From Mao to Mozart: Isaac Stern in China and A Hungry Feeling - The Life and Death of Brendan Be-han. While we hear music by Haydn, Schubert, Mozart, Smetana, and Beethoven, Miller and Scheuer observe the quartet during rehearsals, and they follow them on their tour to Prague, Venice, Baden-Baden, and through the United States. The spectator watches the gifted musicians, who are trying te reconcile their own artistic aims with the demands of the repertoire of chamber music, and with the tension involved in the exhausting concerts and travelling schedules.
