I understand the intention of making a smart chamber drama that, under the cover of a B-movie premise (a group of friends adrift in the middle of a lake fighting against a monster fish), will reveal evil relationship secrets and the real nature of the characters. It’s really clear that the director knew what he wanted to make. Unfortunately, the intention to be smart does not equal a smart result. The interaction of the characters is unconvincing… actually, all their behaviour felt terribly inadequate – exaggerated some times, while incomprehensibly subdued at others. It’s not even close to thrilling and terrifying and it’s not entertaining, either. But the worst is that it doesn’t even work as a drama because it never surprises – the twists are predictable and repetitive. A shame. (17.07.2013)
