Ania (Rachel Griffiths) ma piękny głos. Gdy ma szesnaście lat, wygrywa najbardziej prestiżową nagrodę na Konkursie Kulturalnym Walii, The Eisteddfod. Dostaje stypendium na studia wokalne w Mediolanie, niestety musi odmówić, ponieważ jej matka jest umierająca. Od tamtej pory Ania nie zaśpiewa ani jednej nuty. Ania żyje w cieniu swego surowego ojca (Jonathan Pryce), który znany jest jako głos dolin. Dziewczyna chce się usamodzielnić, lecz jej ojciec doznaje wylewu i żąda, by spędzała z nim jeszcze więcej czasu niż dotychczas. Gdy w końcu buntuje się, w sprawę angażuje się cała wieś. Dopiero gdy Ania odzyskuje głos, staje się naprawdę wolna. (SPI)

Annie Mary lives with her self-centred and "slightly" oppressive father and longs to break free from him and start a new life, possibly building on the singing successes of her youth. But awkwardness, clumsiness and bad luck are the attributes of this pitiful young woman, who at times I felt incredibly sorry for. For a few passages they try (perhaps too much) to push our emotions, but on the other hand there were quite a few truly funny scenes (the duo Rhys & Gruffudd, the Pavarotti trio, etc. ...) that made me laugh from the heart. And Rachel Griffiths is really cute. In short, a classic and unpretentious TV movie with beautiful English settings, perfect for a pleasant afternoon.
