The film Promised Land benefits greatly from the raw approach in which it is shot. The handheld camera, constantly following the characters closely, is pivotal here, allowing the depressive trajectories of individual fates to resonate with you. Unfortunately, that's all there is to it. The cruel theme is only presented here through good camerawork; otherwise, there's not much to it. ()
