Once upon a time, there lived a proud Princess, Isabella of Geranium, who was as vain as she was beautiful. When her father tries to find her a husband, no suitor is good enough for her, no matter how flowery his title. She even rejects noble Prince Richard of Begonia, and mocks him as "King Thrushbeard," even though she secretly likes him.
Finally, her father has had enough. He vows to give his daughter to the first beggar to knock on his door. Just then, a wandering minstrel appears before the castle: It's Richard in disguise, who wants to teach his bride-to-be a lesson in humility. The King gives his daughter's hand in marriage to the poor troubadour and sends her off with him. Isabella has to go away with the "beggar" and move into his modest shack, cooking, cleaning and selling her wares at the marketplace to survive. But eventually, the haughty princess learns to respect and value the common people and the little things in life. At the same time, Richard never loses faith in his love and sticks with her through thick and thin, finally finding a way to live happily ever after. A magnificent retelling of the timeless Grimm fairy tale. (oficjalny tekst dystrybutora)
