W krainie Westeros królowie i królowe, rycerze i renegaci, kłamcy, a także ci o szlachetnym sercu toczą nieustającą walkę o władzę nad siedmioma królestwami. (HBO)

Gra o tron (2011)

angielski Even though the last season is the weakest of the lot, this is still the best series ever. ()

Season 1 (2011) (S01)

angielski I understand the enthusiasm and exaltation of this series. After all the idiotic crime shows like CSI and Cobra 11, this is a fresh, atypical ride through a gritty, mythological medieval period, but one that doesn't forget to use vulgar language, sex, and often cut someone's head off for effect. This blending of the old with the "modern" is cool and confident and there's no denying the great atmosphere, and the fact that the lack of a budget and therefore the absence of juicy, spectacular battles can be forgiven. The characters have depth, and each of them usually plays an important role in the intricacies of the story. It's catchy, although there's that serial aftertaste of drag, but fortunately, the least in a very long time. Giddy-up for the second season. ()

Nadchodzi zima (2011) (S01E01)

angielski The opening is gripping, then the pace slows down a bit. After all, the viewer needs to be put into an epic backdrop of all the nations with the main characters and territories. The mystical and gritty medieval atmosphere is excellent, the opening credits are amazing, the musical score is also impressive. It looks like a 150-million dollar swords and sandals film, but it’s a TV show. ()

The Kingsroad (2011) (S01E02)

angielski Intrigues, scheming and moves on an imaginary chessboard. It slightly starts to catch the mores of classic series, i.e. to put the key twist in the last shot, but surprisingly it doesn't lose its pull and you want to know more about the characters. ()

Lord Snow (2011) (S01E03)

angielski Clearly the weakest episode of the first three without any dominant scene or plot twist. A rather pointless episode, then, which only creates a kind of connective tissue between the rest and brings crystallization rather than a shift in the plot. ()

Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things (2011) (S01E04)

angielski The dialogue filler continues, spiced up with a superb jousting tournament. A not very revelatory episode with stagnant pace and action. ()

The Wolf and the Lion (2011) (S01E05)

angielski Amazing episode. Breathtaking scenes of the Erie with the visual opulence of classic big movies, a great duel of Stark vs Lannister and overall a very plot-dense episode where the pieces on the chessboard move forward at a very fast pace. Most of the story revolves around the troubles in the capital, the wilderness part doesn't get any space at all this time. A balanced and thick episode. ()

Złota korona (2011) (S01E06)

angielski A top-notch episode working primarily with the chapter beyond the Narrow Sea this time, which is compelling in its intensity and naturalism. At the same time, you can feel that things are getting darker and big twists are coming. ()

You Win or You Die (2011) (S01E07)

angielski Exceptional character work, brilliant pulling of strings and intrigue. One of the best episodes so far, if not the best. The ending (the coronation) has incredible intensity and an exemplary build-up of tension, while remaining completely unpredictable. ()

The Pointy End (2011) (S01E08)

angielski An episode entirely about intrigue and political infighting, spiced up by two attractive minor duels – a fencing teacher and a barbarian warrior. The zombie thread is still taken with a grain of salt, let's see what the writers have planned for it. ()

Baelor (2011) (S01E09)

angielski The penultimate episode is full of emotion, an interesting barbarian resuscitation ritual and a gripping finale, probably the most pivotal scene of the entire season and at the same time probably a ruthless indication of where the Game will actually go and how the characters will be dealt with. ()

Fire and Blood (2011) (S01E10)

angielski A spectacular ending to the season that captivates with scenes as heroic as they are intimate. It’s one of the few episodes with a minimum of filler, the story has drive and has nothing redundant or gratuitous. The motivations of the characters are clear, unambiguous, the twists are minimal. Things are likely to be more drastic in the coming season. ()

Season 2 (2012) (S02)

angielski More fleshed out than the first season, with a handful of new characters. It has its pros and cons. The first season had more pace and was more dynamic. The second season, especially in the middle episodes, has a lot of dialogue filler and the pieces on the chessboard move very sporadically, if at all. Nevertheless, the new nations are fine, they will certainly speak in an important way to the events in future episodes. And finally, at the end of the season, we get to see a proper battle, which we have been waiting for since the beginning of the saga. ()

The North Remembers (2012) (S02E01)

angielski Obviously, the second episode draws the lines much faster than the first. Everything about the king and Kings Landing is a riveting, looming battle of nations about to begin. The introduction of new players to the game is pleasingly brief, but probably absolutely crucial for future episodes. ()

The Night Lands (2012) (S02E02)

angielski Tyrion rules, and apart from a few haunting panoramas of castles on cliffs, he practically steals the whole episode for himself with his biting and incredibly caustic remarks, amazing. The screenwriters and the actors deserve a pat on the back, thanks to (not only) that, the second part is going faster than the first. So far, the barbarians are getting surprisingly little space. ()

What Is Dead May Never Die (2012) (S02E03)

angielski After the thrilling scene from the previous episode, which foreshadowed exciting twists and turns, comes a surprising cooling down. A rather underwhelming episode that introduces a couple of new characters, Tyrion as a brilliant strategist and an excellent final battle. Otherwise, things are basically standing still. ()

Garden of Bones (2012) (S02E04)

angielski This episode plays on a darker note. The tug-of-war for the royal throne between the brothers, Tyrion's pulling of strings around the queen, the lavish desert city and the final grim surprise in the bay. Unfortunately, so far these are rather hints, which are probably meant to seduce the viewer into watching more episodes. It's safe to assume we'll have something to look forward to in a few episodes. Again, another skipped/cut battle – this is becoming a trend that I firmly hope will not continue. ()

The Ghost of Harrenhal (2012) (S02E05)

angielski A story gravy with one very important scene. But I still can't shake the impression that this season has been very inconsistent and fragmented so far. Let’s see what the second half brings. ()

The Old Gods and the New (2012) (S02E06)

angielski Starring Theon, who has transformed himself into an exemplarily colourful villain whose cruelty is perhaps exceeded only by King Joffrey. The scenes behind the wall are bland, without anything important happening. Probably a surprise for the coming season. The scenes in Qarth have so far been rather haphazard. ()

A Man Without Honor (2012) (S02E07)

angielski Jaime Lannister is the highlight of this episode, his character is so colourful, layered and unpredictable. The scenes in the north behind the wall are a question mark, and remain the most ambiguous. In contrast, in the south everything is becoming clear. Another excellent duo with great chemistry between Arya and Tywin Lannister. Charles Dance is terrific. ()
