A drama of the lives of the poor villagers living in the isolated and inhospitable region of mountainous Northern Slovakia in the period of economic depression of the 1930s. The emigration wave culminates and the vision of a better life drives thousands of people to America for work. Others go to the nearby towns in order to earn a living for their families.
