Przyjaźń!

This movie was recommended to me by a workmate and since the premise was really interesting, I decided to give it a go. Germans filmmakers used to be considered one of the worst filmmakers in the whole of Europe. As I see it, it was caused by the fact that people here didn’t know the good movies. I mean I’ve seen some bad German movies, but I’ve also seen a whole lot of very good ones too. And Friendship! is definitely one of the good movies. It is true that it sets the bar pretty high from the start – sometimes the bar moves lower, sometimes it holds and sometimes it is even elevated a bit higher which was great. That was mainly when the filmmakers were filming the beautiful places in the USA, or when something happened to the guys on their pilgrimage to San Francisco that was definitely worth remembering. It’s actually a very pleasant movie and you will fall for the two guys. Their actions are definitely interesting, but I have to admit that as somebody who grew up in communism, I had a hard time imagining behaving like that. The pleasant road movie is cut off by the ending that made me realize that the times and the fact that borders finally opened didn’t only bring about positive things… (03.04.2013)
