Story of a boy (11) and a girl (12) who flee from summer camp after being subjected to a cruel prank by their bullying peers. The two runaways find both their confidence and friendship growing over the course of their three-day adventure. Director D.J. Caruso adapts Brock Cole's award-winning young adult novel The Goats to tell the story of a boy and a girl, ages 11 and 12, who are ostracized by their peer groups at summer camp. The outsiders soon find themselves victims of a vicious prank, but rather than returning to camp to face the humiliation, they decide to take off on the run together. D.J. Caruso has probably filmed it all; a crime investigation movie, a comedy, a sci-fi and now he’s gotten himself into a family drama. When I watched it, I felt the same as when I turned on the long-dead Hallmark TV and watched a wishy-washy family story. Except for the fact that with a director like this you should get a solid spectacle. Which didn’t really happen, even though I have to admit that it gave me some food for thought. Actually, I’m trying in vain to figure out whether I’ve ever seen a philosophical family drama. When it comes to the actors, it took a while before I got used to them, but then I realized that it takes very little for someone in a family to irreversibly destroy a kid’s childhood and I related to the situation quite quickly. A very sensitive movie.
