No other symbol is so closely connected with the American counterculture as that of the ‘easy rider’, the modern ‘lonesome cowboy’ on his Harley Davidson. The motorcyclists, or ‘bikers’ as they are called in the U.S., make up a subculture with their peculiar attire, social codes and lingo. Not every Harley rider is automatically a real biker: in Biker Dreams we get to know the differences between wannabees, newbies, rubbies (‘rich urban bikers’), one-percenters (‘outlaws’) and Harley used-to-bees. Parallel to this sociological angle we also follow the romantic episode of Martin and his girlfriend Alex who are making their first motorcycle trip. They travel from their hometown Seattle through Washington to South Dakota where they take part in the Black Hills Motorcycle Classic. Some 150,000 bikers gather here every year. Before director Adam Berman founded his private production company Epicenter Films Corporation in 1992, he worked as a producer for 20th Century Fox. Biker Dreams is his first long documentary.
