Five teenage delinquents escape a detention centre in the Argentinian countryside. They want to get to the capital where they expect freedom and a better future. However, they must first survive the seven day journey through the Pampas, wild nature and the desolate forests. The initial excitement and dreams, strongly supported by drugs, cheap alcohol and non-committal sex, soon start to dissipate as the journey goes on seemingly forever. The group starts to realize that instead of the desired future, they are on the road to perdition. Alejandro Fadel's contemplative picture draws inspiration from several famous directors (especially Malick and Bresson), the 1970s western, and magic realism. The performances of the non-actors in the main roles are one of the biggest strengths of the film, together with the intentionally slow tempo of the narrative and the strong contrast between the virginal landscape and the human protagonists whose lives and characters are much darker than it might seem on the first sight.
