Głównymi bohaterami serialu HBO Detektyw są Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson) i Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey), dwaj detektywi i byli partnerzy, którzy w połowie lat 90. pracowali w wydziale kryminalnym w Luizjanie. Prowadzili wówczas śledztwo w sprawie makabrycznego morderstwa, które mogło mieć rytualny podtekst. Podczas poszukiwań mordercy ich losy połączyły się w nieoczekiwany sposób, co doprowadziło do konfliktu. W 2012 roku zostaje popełnione podobne morderstwo. Dwóch nowych detektywów przydzielonych do sprawy postanawia przejrzeć akta z 1995 roku. Martin i Rust opowiadają im o dawnym śledztwie i swoim życiu, wyjawiając przy okazji powody, które skłoniły Cohle’a do odejścia z wydziału zabójstw w 2002 roku. Opowieści detektywów o śledztwie zmuszają mężczyzn do powrotu do bolesnych wspomnień i do świata, który dawno zostawili za sobą. (HBO)

Detektyw (2014)
A very good crime drama with a couple of great actors and a priceless gloomy atmosphere. I liked the way the filmmakers played with various details, such as the aging of the two characters (although Harrelson's "young" tupé was very obvious, even worse than his accent, which was also agonizing) and how they managed to piece together the story, even in pieces. For my taste, however, True Detective lacked any surprises. I didn't want a shocking point right away, but still, some "Well, I didn't expect that!" wouldn't hurt. "It used to be just darkness. In my opinion, light wins."

It is a pity about the rushed ending, which for example escalated the relationship between the Prior father and son too much for my taste and almost took the other characters (Danvers' daughter, the mysterious Rose) too far. Otherwise, I really enjoyed Night Country, and I'm not just talking about the fantastic atmosphere and the captivating cinematography, but especially the performances of Jodie Foster and Kali Reis. The combination of crime and mystery worked well, I can't imagine a more appropriate setting for such a case.
