At the beginning of the story taken from the bloody 11th century of Hungary's history, bishop Gellért, who came to Buda to create peace, is thrown down into the Danube. Anticipating the on-coming struggle for the throne, Duke Béla hides his sons, while he himself flees to Poland, but even so is killed. Only by relying on his cousins Salamon is able to repell the attack of the Pechenegs, but then, anxious to keep his power, he incitingly turns on his cousins, and slaughters their adherents. László defends his younger brother and their possessions, then marries the Greek princess, jails Salamon and promotes the succession of Géza. In a short while, however, the king dies, and László, in the possession of Stephen's holy crown, takes power to restore order in the country. (Budapest Film)
