Warwick Thornton wanted to make a movie based on real ghost stories, but the testimonies he was getting weren't about fear, but about reencountering loved ones. And so The Darkside wound up having a cathartic character, with lots of emotion (plus a few chills) and different actors talking about these contacts with the beyond. (Sitges Film Festival)
