angielski The best adaptation of “Les Misérables” may be the one by Robert Hossein starring Lino Ventura, but the best Jean Valjean will forever remain the one who walks in the body of Jean Gabin. A film classic. ()

angielski The spectacular treatment of Les Misérables in the 1950s is a typical feature film of that era. Unlike the first French soundtrack, this is a widescreen color canvas reveling in the spectacular colors of Technicolor. There really is no poverty and ugliness, as even the greatest pauper has only a less elegant hairstyle and plainer clothes. Even the story of Fantine is free of that tangible fall to the bottom. This Les Misérables is primarily a showcase for the classical acting of Gabin, Blier, and Bourvil, but it in no way captures the spirit of the novel. ()
