They are in meadows, under the ground, in the corners of rooms and even under water. Spider webs are everywhere. Their makers are famous for their ingenuity and the masterful craft of spinning their webs. Although they create visually outstanding works of art, which glisten in the morning dew, they often arouse suspicion and fear in the human mind. However, scientists are fascinated by their remarkable qualities, and their capacity to store all their building material inside their bodies. They use the material to build a shelter for their eggs and to spin webs, which they have to rebuild up to twice a day due to the effect of strong winds. Spiders live on all the continents, apart from the polar regions. The documentary Super Spider allows the viewer not only to perceive the eight-legged creatures as one of the most efficient hunters, but also to explore the secrets of their web material. The documentary presents the data via a series of experiments and shows spiders in several ways, including animation and illustrative shots, taken either in the grounds of Oxford University, or in a more natural environment. The macro lens camcorder literally takes the viewer under the spider’s skin. (Academia Film Olomouc)
