In 1939, the now legendary Bletchley Park became the headquarters of the Government Code and Cypher School, administered by MI6. The School’s main objectives were to decipher the coded messages of the Axis powers and to break the system of the German coding machines, Enigma and Lorenz. The mission was a secret and even today many aspects remain a mystery. Among the most prominent employees at Bletchley Park was Alan Turing, the man responsible for cracking the Enigma code. Turing is mentioned in the documentary, but the stage is mainly taken by two other unappreciated geniuses Bill Tutte and Tommy Flowers. Tutte was responsible for breaking the Tunny code system and Tommy Flowers built the world’s first electronic, digital and programmeable computer, the Colossus. Their other work is also mentioned in the documentary – work for which neither of them received the credit they deserved, despite making the war significantly shorter. One of the protagonists is Tutte’s colleague at Bletchley Park and a first-hand witness from that time, Captain Jerry Roberts. (Academia Film Olomouc)
