Záchrana loskutáka z Niasu

In his third film, Michal Galik goes back to Indonesia, where he also shot his picture Green Desert. This time, he journeyed to Kalimantan and its surrounding islands, where a group of Czech zoologists from the Liberec ZOO work on an in situ project. The usual animal candidates to be saved from extinction are larger species thanks to widespread awareness and media coverage (e.g. the orangutan and the tiger). However, the author of this film seeks out the Nias myna. This bird has become a wanted pet because it can perfectly reproduce sounds as well as human speech. Its population in the wild has been reduced to such a small number that today it almost only survives as an expensive home decoration. While in Green Desert the director analyses general factors leading to the reduction of various species' populations, this film focuses on specific results of these changes. Galik again emphasizes the causes and consequences of seemingly local issues. He warns that in today's world, it is necessary to take global responsibility because its interdependence is more and more apparent. (Academia Film Olomouc)
