Kenny Wells ostatnio nie ma szczęścia w interesach. Rozpaczliwie potrzebuje więc spektakularnego przełomu. Postanawia zdobyć fortunę dzięki swemu zamiłowaniu do przygód i ryzyka. Wraz z szanowanym podróżnikiem Michaelem Acostą wyrusza do Indonezji, by w sercu tamtejszej dżungli szukać złota. Ryzyko jest ogromne, mało kto wierzy w powodzenie misji, a jednak przeczucie Wellsa okazuje się prawdziwe. W jednej chwili z podupadającego biznesmena staje się milionerem i gwiazdą Wall Street. Ale tam gdzie są wielkie pieniądze, zaczynają się wielkie kłopoty. Chętnych do podziału złotego tortu znajduje się coraz więcej: począwszy od indonezyjskich władz, poprzez różnej maści cwaniaków, a na CIA kończąc. Kenny Wells zamiast cieszyć się luksusem, będzie musiał zmierzyć się z ludźmi, dla których oszustwo to chleb powszedni. (Monolith)

A film that seems rather off-putting at the beginning, just to create a state of movie bliss at the end. At the beginning I had no idea what reason I could find to finish watching this movie. Although Matthew McConaughey showed another incredible transformation, at the same time he spoke so technically I thought for a while he fell from the Mars. Luckily, after meeting Édgar Ramírez, the technicality disappeared and the real story began, gradating the film's quality towards a bit shocking ending. What can I say, it was again one of those films I will be glad to remember.

An above-average standard reconstruction (in the day) of the biggest gold fraud on earth. Unfortunately made by a director without the necessary knack. The acting is great, and tubby McConaughey rocks. The screenplay is excellent, but has no build-up of tension, and simply tells the story as it unfolds, which is a bit disappointing. And this is another important lesson we can learn from history.

Though Gold has a plot structure with the right punchlines, it has no drive and the director’s way of doing things is too
detached. And the choice of songs used in the soundtrack is downright dubious. The movie would benefit from more
skillful, faster storytelling and some vivacity like American Hustle had (both films take place in a similar retro America).

A traditionally well-prepared McConaughey, giving his usual 100 percent to his role. Otherwise, however, this is a rather uninteresting film inspired by a true story, which follows in the footsteps of American Hustle in its retro style, but lacking vivacity and passion. Other than a couple of emotionally accomplished situations, it’s a real borefest.

The film reminds me more of The Big Short than The Wolf of Wall Street. It wasn't a bad film, Matthew McConaughey's performance is excellent and the overall idea is definitely intriguing, towards the end there is the expected stuffiness and trouble and only then does the film start to get interesting. For one viewing ok. 60%.
