Carla is a doctor who faces an ethical dilemma on a daily basis. Thanks to the electoral support he received from the Catholic Church, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega in 2007 approved a regulation prohibiting abortion, even in cases of rape, incest or danger to the mother's life. The result is a significant increase in the number of botched home abortions and unwanted pregnancies. Carla, however, believes that the law is medically unethical and violates women's rights. In order to assist patients, she and her team must teeter on the edge of illegality. Through the story of Carla, we also get a glimpse into the current political situation in Nicaragua, which is not widely discussed. (One World)
