"I've given you everything", says Turkish-born single parent father to his daughter. But this smothering affection is just the thing that his 26-year old daughter Melisa has gotten quite enough of. Tired of his attention and manipulation, Melisa decides to leave Finland and build her identity in the place where he won't follow: Turkey. Daddy's Girl is a documentary following family relations from brutally close perspective. Camera is ever-present and up close in the everyday life of this dysfunctional family. In Turkey, Melisa meets her grandmother, the person her father has been running away from. Ruthlessly the camera reveals how every new generation repeats the same mistakes trying to control their offspring with jealousy, humiliation and money. A daughter can't fully escape her family, but when you step aside for a moment, you can see the big picture. Rebellion gives root to the need to understand and forgive. But first Melisa should find a way to introduce her Turkish boyfriend to her father. Daddy's Girl is a story about differences, but also about similarities, reunions and the difficulty to hate. Father and daughter know each other so well, that even the most tragic scenes start to seem comical. Melisa's relationship to her father is so painful, because there's so much love involved.
