Set in Cutter, Mississippi, THE NEIGHBOUR follows two small-time drug-traffickers, John (Josh Stewart) and Rosie (Alex Essoe), who operate a weigh station next door to their creepy neighbour, Troy, a widower struggling to raise his two sons. Planning to leave their dark career behind, John and Rosie decide to double-cross their boss, but when John returns home after obtaining enough getaway cash, he finds Rosie missing. The Collection has become a minor cult-classic and Marcus Dunstan probably naively thought that if he cast the same actor and chose a similar plot, he would reap success again, but there is no gore and the film is much poorer visually. What I did like were the bad guys, I immediately thought of Storm Warning, but it's all too cautious and lacking in intensity. I wasn't bored, so I'll give it an average rating, but next time it needs some improvement. 50%

The horror film The Neighbor isn't exactly a great spectacle, but it fits into the current intriguing trend of horror films like Don't Breathe, which focus on the idea that anything could be hiding behind a neighbor's door, and it's definitely not wise to underestimate your surroundings. The film works well as more mainstream torture porn and as revenge and survival. All in all, it's a slightly above-average horror film.
