Braving the Waves

Roqije is an enterprising woman. For years she watched the Iranian government make it impossible for women to find a livelihood and ignore the pervasive poverty. Within a few years of acquiring a piece of dusty and desolate land from the local government, she transforms it into a thriving marketplace. Thanks to Roqije and her tenacious effort to make a living, dozens of local women and men who were previously unable to survive as sellers have now found a livelihood. Her success, however, becomes a thorn in the side of the local authorities. Roqije gathers all the forces she can in order to defend her project and the sellers who are dependent on it. But will it be enough? (One World)
