Damnation

I was expecting a great show, which is what I got. I have only a few minor quibbles, otherwise I’m really satisfied. I’m not crazy about American production, but I've grown fond of the prohibition and economic crisis theme because the movies and series set in this period aren’t usually full of melodrama, they don't glorify patriotism, and tend to have a good story. 4*+ (03.02.2019)

The topic of the series interested me, the first episode introduced me to the story of an American bootlegger during the Great Depression and the ongoing prohibition. The creators have created a decent retro atmosphere and a whole range of interesting characters, and I would be even more satisfied if it hadn't come to obligatory quotas again. The only prostitute who can read, of course, has to be black, and one of the toughest characters has to be a woman, of course. I wouldn't mind if the story didn't take place in 1931, it reminds me of sci-fi this way. (31.01.2019)

I still think that the creators of American movies and TV shows should consider applying contemporary quotas to retro matters, but otherwise, I am quite satisfied with the series so far. The plot was never boring for a moment, and moreover, I learned about a (still unknown to me) branch of the Ku Klux Klan (Black Legion) and had a good time. (31.01.2019)

I have to admit that I really enjoy the series so far, a great part of it is definitely the excellently mastered period atmosphere, but also some really interesting characters. In this episode, the hesitant sheriff Don Berryman completely won me over, Christopher Heyerdahl already impressed me in Hell on Wheels and here it just confirms it. (31.01.2019)

Oh no, not again. If it weren't for that incredibly overused phrase "We've been suffering for 300 years," I would rate the episode with five stars, but all these sufferers are really getting on my nerves. I definitely suffered a lot too, especially during the Protectorate era when the Gestapo was terrifying, and I still don't cry all the time. Otherwise, it was a very well-made episode that I simply couldn't get bored with. (31.01.2019)

Even the fifth episode did not deviate from the well-established course, so I had no reason to lower my rating. However, something was still missing for me to give it five stars, but I was still satisfied again, I really liked the atmosphere of the thirties. I was very entertained by the use of the deferred gentlemen from Chicago. (01.02.2019)

The creators this time used retrospective scenes to a greater extent, which I appreciated as I got to know about events that were previously only mentioned in hints. However, the series has already reached its second half, so it was evidently necessary to come up with some explanation. (01.02.2019)

I would say that I saw the most successful episode of the series so far. Besides the usual great atmosphere, it brought a proper dose of action, tension, experiments on people, and spy-detective scenes. I had a great time, and if I wanted to get bored, I wouldn't be able to find time for it. (01.02.2019)

Truth, this episode was not as eventful as the previous one, but it was still extremely entertaining and brought a lesson: if someone wants to interrupt a lynching, don't beat them with a stick when you have a much better opportunity. I also enjoyed learning the reason for the emergence of farmer's markets. (01.02.2019)

With every episode, I enjoy the series more and more. It's probably because the creators once again focused on action, which they handled very nicely, although I do have a few comments. For example, the explosion in the shed with groceries was a good choice, but I was surprised that the wooden shell withstood it. Similarly, I would have used only one grenade to destroy the truck with the machine gun, why such waste? But those are just minor details, I had a great time. (02.02.2019)

It is a great pity that the creators of the series obviously counted on filming another season, some of the issues that they developed and left open-ended sounded somewhat fruitless. But I don't really blame them for it, at least it was evident that they believed in their work, unlike the bigwigs upstairs. (02.02.2019)
