Stalin is the pseudonym ('man of steel', in Russian) for Iosif Vissarionovic Dzugasvili. Appointed Secretary General of the Central Committee in 1922, he expertly turned this initially irrelevant role into a powerful vehicle to impose his personal power on the party, after Lenin's death, till he became the absolute head of the Soviet Union in 1928. This documentary reconstructs his story from rise to power to his death, which occurred in 1953. (Film Europe)
