The docu-musical Cool & Crazy made the Berlevåg male choir, and their hometown, national icons in Norway. This resulted in the choir being invited to tour the United States in the fall of 2001. Most of them had never been in the U.S. before, the oldest member was 96 years old. On September 11, three weeks prior to their deparutre, the U.S. was struck by terrorists. In spite of this, the choir decided to go ahead with the tour. Cool & Crazy on the Road is the story of 30 singers from a small fishing village on the northernmost tip of Europe and their encounter with a nation in mourning and fear, an angry nation. Through song they comfort the people who experienced the catastrophe in New York. They encounter Scandinavian America in the Midwest, arrive as stars in Hollywood, and walk in the footsteps of Elvis - the Communist choir members hero - in Memphis. This film follows their concert tour through the U.S. from coast to coast, their encounter with a nation and a culture literally miles from their own, and thier thoughts and reflections about their experiences during these fateful days.
