"Our music is more illegal than cocaine", boasts Los Aldeanos, the most popular rap duo in Cuba. Instead of illegal substances, their music is laden with rebellion against the powers that be. But in Cuba loose lips sink ships: there are consequences to voicing your opinions. The police may raid you anytime night or day and even sold-out gigs have to be organised far away from the centre. Everything changes when the United States and Cuba start a cultural exchange programme intended to improve relations between the countries. For the first time, Los Aldeanos is granted a permission to leave the country, and the secret underground venues are changed to main stages of big festivals. But being successful abroad isn't all song and dance. Talk show hosts in USA don't seem to understand the difference between anti-Castro and pro-people. And in the end none of that even matters. Their fight is in Cuba, not in the USA. Léa Rinaldi's documentary focuses wisely on what's important and leave room for the music. It is difficult to resist the rhymed rebellion of Los Aldeanos and the viewers might find themselves jamming in their seats.
