Josef Rovenský, a prominent First-Republic actor, also directed his own films: at the beginning of the 1930s he made a drama which, despite its really simple plot, was groundbreaking in a way - it tells the story of love budding between two young people who are forever bound to the landscape around river Sázava. Rovenský was at the birth of Czech poetic cinematography, which was later quite successful also with foreign audiences. (Summer Film School)
