Eclipse of the man-made sun is a startling examination of the language and imagery that have been associated with nuclear energy and weapons over the last half century. This language abounds with euphemisms, acronysms, metaphors and various mythical and symbolic associations. Many of these images at first appear bizarre and surprising, but they often come directly out of traditional concerns and motifs integral to the development of western civilisation. Using archival and contemporary footage from across the globe, interviews and optical, computer and animation effects, eclipse of the man-made sun explores how and why these particular associations have developed and considers the many aspects of our everyday lives and culture that have been profoundly effected by these images.
