Tierra y Libertad directly translated means land and freedom. This slogan was used by Mexican Revolutionaries in 1917. Nowadays its use is synonymous with a group of Mexicans who occupy land in the city of Monterrey in northern Mexico. Collectively they are trying to build a more humane society without the exploitation they so well remember. Their slogan is a reversal of that used in 1917: the cry "the land belongs to those who work ithas been transformed into "city land belongs to those who need it.
