Maria is a happy, optimistic and successful TV journalist. She is also blissfully pregnant, as a result of an adventure in an elevator. As her pregnancy goes on, she becomes more and more secure in the cozy isolation of her domestic space and her own body; her only confidant is a young boy who waits in the stairwell for his parents to come home from work. As she takes a new journalistic project, she becomes aware of an astonishing new statistic: the escalating number of miscarred or stillborn children in the industrialized western world.
