In September 1952 in a mine in Northern-Hungary after an explosion water breaks in from the neighbouring shaft and fourteen miners become trapped. The whole country unites to save them. While the rescue operation is organized on the ground, the fourteen miners inside, running out of oxygen prepare themselves for death and revive their entire lives, conflicts, failures, while incessantly conveying their signals of life to the outside world. Borsa Pista struggles for his companions defying every danger who are at last saved at the price of his life.
