Lampart Luchino Visconti nazywany jest włoskim Przeminęło z wiatrem. Film stanowi ekranizację powieści Giuseppe Tomasi Di Lampedusy. Akcja filmu rozgrywa się około roku 1860 na Sycylii, w czasie narastających niepokojów społecznych, powstania Garibaldiego i zmierzchu arystokracji. Główną postacią filmu jest książę Don Fabrizio Salina (Burt Lancaster), głowa możnego sycylijskiego rodu. Salina próbuje znaleźć miejsce dla siebie i swojej rodziny w nowych, jednoczących się, Włoszech. Zachodzące zmiany symbolizuje małżeństwo cynicznego i sprytnego siostrzeńca księcia, Tancrediego Falconeri (Alain Delon), z pochodzącą z mieszczaństwa, acz bogatą, piękną Angeliką (Claudia Cardinale). A magnificent and beautifully shot film, with captivating colors that weren't as typical for Italian cinematography, yet suited it so well. It's not a grand drama though; it's still human drama, focusing on individual characters and how their destinies change and how they must also change.

A very long showcase of beautiful images and actors that speaks volumes about the historical era it covers and abounds in almost poetic dialogues of considerable depth, but that as a whole only left me again with Claudia Cardinale’s eyes. The first two hours were still interesting, and I was curious about the fate of the characters, but Visconti deals mostly with the era and the manners of the aristocrats, without bothering to let the viewer get close to the characters. The ending didn’t interest me and the last hour was so tiring that I don’t think I will ever give it another chance. 70%
