In Orione, her 2017 feature-film debut, Toia Bonino told the story of Ale Robles, a young criminal from Don Orione neighborhood, in Greater Buenos Aires, who was killed by the police during a raid after having been snitched. The person who articulated the narrative in that film was Ale’s mom. In Seeing Red, Bonino goes back to the same story, only this time the point of view is that of Leo, Ale’s brother, who spent 14 years in jail and now dreams of avenging his brother. While we see him on the edge of a pool or inside it, Leo tells us about his life while Bonino resorts to archive footage and a large amount of formats that include testimonies recorded by, for example, Leo’s daughter and an old flame in vertical mode with the front cameras of their own cell phones.
