Season 1 (2022) (S01)
This British series was a pleasant surprise for me. Jackson Lamb was such a perfect relic of the Cold War that I regretted the first season only had six episodes. I can't wait for the second season. / Lesson learned: You can't teach an old dog new tricks. And why would you want to? 4*+

I enjoyed this episode just as much as the first one. I'm almost fascinated by Lamb's penal unit; having so many failed existences in one building might be common, but those are usually people who don't earn their living through work. If you employ incompetent individuals and you can't or won't fire them for some reason, give them unnecessary tasks. But tasks that have been pointless for the past thirty years? That's really hitting rock bottom. / Lesson learned: From time to time, it's good to ask who supervises those who supervise those who supervise.

The slow horses crossed the finish line for the third time, and despite their significant handicap, they didn't disappoint me once again. I was pleased to see an increase in cynicism, although such behavior likely won't be tolerated in MI5 agents, assuming the headless man was also a 'good guy.' So far, it seems I made the right choice with this series. / Lesson learned: Don't lose your head, no matter the circumstances. 4*-

While the first two episodes had a decent amount of subtle humor, the second two took a completely different turn. The atmosphere shifted quickly, tension mounted, and humor was sparse, mainly provided by Jackson Lamb. I'm becoming more fascinated by this narrative where MI5 is essentially fighting against itself. / Lesson learned: This is what shit rolling downhill looks like in practice. 4*+

I'm thoroughly enjoying the show. Along with all the positives from before — the story, atmosphere, acting performances, and dry humor — there was also well-executed action added this time. / Lesson learned: Do you have compromising information on someone? It could either save you or cost you your life (with a bit of torture as a bonus).

I'm not giving this episode a five-star rating because the rescue felt rather contrived to me. The conclusion, though not entirely surprising after the buildup across at least four episodes, still worked nicely and provided a decent conclusion to the first season.

Season 2 (2022) (S02)
The second season turned out to be a solid spy thriller that I quite enjoyed, despite a few hiccups in the logic department. It had all the right ingredients: atmosphere, tension, action, and even a sprinkle of humor. Except for a major letdown in the final episode, which I made clear in my review of it, I found myself mostly satisfied. So, I'm eagerly anticipating the continuation. / Lesson learned: Don't lose hope — things can always take a turn for the worse.

From the captivating opening tracking to the final scene at the Asian bistro, I can confidently say I had a fantastic time. Despite my initial doubts about how the creators would follow up on the previous season's finale, my worries were completely unfounded — they navigated the dead end with ease. You can really tell Gary Oldman is enjoying his role. / Lesson learned: Once an agent, always an agent.

The second episode of this season presents some more nonstandard tracking. As someone who used to love British humor, I've noticed its decline over time; if British humor were an animal, it'd surely be on the Red List of Endangered Species. That's why I'm pleased to find a few living specimens in this series, providing plenty of enjoyment. Gary Oldman shines in his role, and he's not the only standout. / Lesson learned: Don't eat everything you get your hands on.

Just as I was settling into the comedic vibe, the third episode took a sharp turn in tone. It wasn't that there wasn't anything humorous; rather, a noticeably darker atmosphere took hold. Surprisingly, I found myself enjoying this shift. Following two episodes primarily focused on humor, the introduction of chilling moments, and a couple of unexpected twists kept me engaged. Additionally, it seems two of Webb's horses are gearing up for something unexpected, promising more excitement ahead. / Lesson learned: board a small plane only if you have the stomach for it. 4*-

While humor still has its place, the second season has shifted gears into a high-quality spy thriller. It's not quite on the level of The Americans, so it has some weird stuff in the plot that seemed almost silly, but I'm still satisfied as a viewer. / Lesson learned: Choose your adversaries wisely, if you want to avoid getting punched in the dark. 4*+

This time around, the spy facade felt more like a Potemkin village — decent on the surface, but hiding a chaotic mess underneath. I couldn't help but notice the lack of logic in practically every aspect of what I saw. For instance, why bother tying up an agent who knows too much when you could easily eliminate them? Honestly, I found myself enjoying the comedic moments more than the serious storyline. However, what irked me the most was the leftist sign proclaiming that socialism is humanity. Having experienced socialism firsthand, I'd tell the person holding the sign to stick it where the sun don't shine. / Lesson learned: Watch out for heavily loaded Cessnas. 4*-

I'll admit, I was bracing myself for a much more disappointing finale. In fact, I quite enjoyed it. The only real letdown was the portrayal of the Russian superagent Andrei Chernitsky, who felt like the weakest link in the final episode. Sure, there were a few instances where logic took a backseat, but the creators managed to salvage the situation with an engaging plot, memorable quotes, humor, and the ever-entertaining character of Catherine Standish, who continues to win me over with each appearance. / Lesson learned: Keep in shape — elevators can break down unexpectedly.
