Biografia
JANE LYNCH is enjoying another career triumph as one of the stars of the award-winning FOX-TV musical-comedy series, "Glee." For her work as the irascible cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester, Lynch won Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild honors (the latter as part of the show's ensemble cast) in 2010, with a second nomination for the Golden Globe and two more nods for the SAG AwardTM -- again for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Cast and Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy. She collected her second consecutive Emmy nomination for Supporting Actress in 2011, and was also nominated (as Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series) for CBS-TV's "Two and A Half Men."
Lynch hails from Chicago's southern suburbs and graduated from Illinois State University with a theater degree, before earning her M.F.A. from Cornell University. She began working with the Steppenwolf Theater Company in Chicago, both as an actress and writer, and also toured with the Second City comedy troupe.
She began appearing in films and on television as early as 1988 (including a small role opposite Harrison Ford in the 1993 Oscar-nominated thriller, "The Fugitive"), but her breakthrough came over a decade later, when she appeared in Christopher Guest's acclaimed canine mockumentary, "Best in Show."
This led to an ongoing affiliation with the director, with co-starring roles in two of his subsequent films, the folk singing satire, "A Mighty Wind" (sharing in Best Ensemble honors from the Florida and Phoenix film critics organizations) and "For Your Consideration," Guest's lampooning of Hollywood's awards season, for which she also shared a nomination for the Gotham Award with the film's ensemble cast. Lynch also became a ubiquitous face in Judd Apatow's films, appearing in "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" and "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story."
Lynch's film credits also include "Julie & Julia" alongside Best Actress Oscar nominee Meryl Streep, "Post Grad," "Paul and Brownie Masters," "Role Models," "The Rocker," "Spring Breakdown," "Alvin and the Chipmunks," Margaret Cho's "Celeste and Bam Bam," Alan Cumming's "Suffering Man's Charity," "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events," "Sleepover," "Surviving Eden," "Paul," and three animated films -- "Space Chimps," "Rio" and "Shrek Forever After."
Her television credits include the series "Party Down," "Lovespring International," "Desperate Housewives," "Arrested Development," "Weeds," as well as the last season of Showtime's "The L Word" opposite Cybill Shepherd. Lynch has had recurring roles on "Boston Legal," "Two and a Half Men," "Criminal Minds" and "The New Adventures of Old Christine." She has also guest-starred on such acclaimed series as "Fraser," "Cybill," "3rd Rock from the Sun," "Dharma & Greg," "Gilmore Girls," "Judging Amy," "The West Wing," "Arli$$," "X- Files," "King of Queens," "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and "Monk."
Lynch's play "Oh Sister, My Sister!" had runs at the Tamarind Theatre and Bang Theater, garnering the LA Weekly Comedy Ensemble of the Year Award. Other stage credits include the off-Broadway productions of "The Real Live Brady Bunch and the Real Live Game Show" and "Love, Loss and What I Wore," the latter written by Nora and Delia Ephron.
Following her work on the film, Lynch hosted the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards, which aired on September 18, 2011. That same month, she celebrated the publication of her memoirs, Happy Accidents.
