Biografia

Yuji Nakae started making films as a member of the Ryukyu University Filmmaking Club. In 1992 he participated with an episode in the omnibus movie Pineapple Tours, which screened in the Forum section of the Berlin Festival, where, years later, he won the NETPAC Award for Nabbie no koi (Nabbie's Love, 1999). With Hotel Hibiscus (2002), he returned to the same section of the Berlinale and carried off the Special Jury Award at Tokyo Festival. The other films in his filmography are the fiction Koishikute (2007) and Manatsu no yo no yume (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, 2009). He is also author of the documentaries Shirayuri Club Tokyo e Iku (2003), 40 Sai Mondai (2008) and Bon-Uta (2018).
