Biografia

Sigfrid Monleón is a graduate in Cinema and Television Directing from the Centro Sperimentale de Cinematografia de Roma. He has directed many short films, of which the most notable are De los caníbales (1995), Si llegas o es regreso (1995 2nd prize in the Certamen Nacional de Cortomentrajes de Alcalá de Henares) y Lo del ojo no es nada (1997, premiered in the International Cinema Week of Valladolid), en 2001 his first opera was premiered, La isla del holandés, in the Festival of Spanish Cinema in Malaga, la Mostra de València and was nominated for the best adapted screenplay Goya. In 2003 he produced and directed the medium length documentary Karlitos which was presented at eh International Film Festival of Gijon. In 2004 he participated in the feature length collective film Hay motivo with the short Adopción. That same year he wrote and directed Síndrome Laboral, a made for TV feature length film (Canal 9/TV3). In 2006 his feature length film La bicicleta was premiered. In 2008 he directed the documentary El último truco. Emilio Ruiz del Río which was presented at the Film Festival of Rome and at la Seminci; it won at the Spanish Documentary Film Festival of Jaen and it was nominated for Best Documentary Goya. In 2009 he directed the feature length El cónsul de Sodcoma that received five nominations at the Goyas, of which was best actor (Jordi Molla) and best screenplay adaptation (in collaboration with Joaquín Górriz, Miguel Ángel Fernández y Miguel Dalmau). It won the LesGaiCineMad award 2010. That same year he codirected the documentary Ciudadano Negrín, with Cárlos Álvarez which was awarded a prize at The Spanish Documentary Festival of Jaén and nominated for the Best Documentary Goya. In 2011 Sigfrid debuted as a stage director with the production La rendición, adapted from Toni Bently’s book Homónimo, which was adapted and interpreted by Isabel Stoffel. After the premier of Microteatro por Dinero (Madrid) El Centro Dramático Nacional added the production to its January-February 2013 programme.
