Biografia

He was born in 1910 in Liptál u Vsetína and passed away in 1987 in Prague. During his studies of electrical engineering at the Brno Technical University, he joined the Communist Party and started to deal with radio and audiovisual technologies and, among other things, successfully experimented with television broadcasting. With Otakar Vávra, he co-directed the avant-garde Light Penetrates the Dark and later worked as a photographer, sound engineer or technological experimenter. Since the mid 30's, he worked in the avant-garde filmmakers group in Baťa's Film Studios. During the war, he participated in the preparations for nationalizing film, and after escaping prison, he even lived as runaway for a while. After 1945, he had worked in the management of Czechoslovak Cinema- tography for several years and since 1952, he had been Deputy Central Director of Czechoslovak Film for Technology for 25 years.
