Wkraczając w pustkę (2009)

angielski Without a doubt one of the most original films I've ever seen. An absolutely intense experience and right from the start – the opening credits "alone" are really legit. Plus, Enter the Void is not even completely EMPTY on a psychological level:))) As Oskar's soul wanders and returns to his childhood and recent past, the viewer has the opportunity to get to know his personality better and hopefully understand his future direction. Still, it's not up to full marks with me, because after the excellent first hour (the opening drug bust in perfectly stylized and psycho images is perfect, and the scene of Oskar's death is no less mesmerizing) you start to get the feeling that Noé is repeating himself in some ways, and those insanely long shots of him flying over the city can start to get boring. But of course that doesn't change the fact that it's an unforgettable experience. Plus, despite the aforementioned overlong shots, the cinematography is obtusely beautiful:))) 90%

Chinatown (1974)

angielski A cult affair that "made it" in time to be filmed during the best era of Hollywood. At the same time one of the first Polanski films I had the opportunity to see. Great period atmosphere, an excellent Jack Nicholson, and Polanski's distinguished filmmaking.

Życie.Po.Życiu (2009)

angielski When compared to the also recent debut of Michael Lander and his Peacock, After.Life rates a bit higher in the overall totals. Both films have an interesting (and in the case of After.Life quite original) story and a decent atmosphere, but at the same time they fail to develop the story in such a way that they are able to impress as a whole and not "merely" with their individual parts (the cast is excellent in both cases – even more stellar in the case of Peacock; a few chilling moments can also be found in both films, and the direction is not completely without ideas...)) After.Life is a better mystery thriller with a few horror moments, which in the current production leaves quite an original impression – I just still can't get rid of the feeling that it could have been even better. 70-75%

Nie czas na łzy (1999)

angielski A film with such a strong theme should first and foremost feel believable and credible, which the filmmakers have clearly and quite convincingly managed to do. That "believability and credibility" is achieved here with the help of the actors and the script, which is vital from the author's point of view. The unique performance of Hilary Swank, who at certain moments is perhaps not even acting anymore, but simply "is" the guy, combined with an excellently written story, together create a familiar whole that warns, shocks, moves, and digs very deep into your heart.

Weronika postanawia umrzeć (2009)

angielski Sometimes even seemingly unremarkable and seemingly "minor" films can offer an extraordinary experience. Veronika Decides to Die is a perfect example of this, and it's not necessarily just about the visuals (although in this case the totally unknown to me Emily Young also did a good job), but also about the actual applicability with our real lives (after all, the girl was actually right about almost everything:)) Veronica, disgusted and depressed by the current times, rediscovers the strength to live again only because of a few wonderful individual moments (as the film itself says), which she experiences thanks to a strange encounter, through which in her "new" life she finds what she was missing before (or rather, what her former life could not provide). The deep and psychologically sophisticated story is graced by Sarah Michelle Gellar's beautiful but also passable performance and, of course, the chosen narrative style, which is civil and sensitive in the best way. I don't know the book, but maybe I'll get to it in time. :)

Zły smak (1987)

angielski Extremely funny, stylish, disgustingly gross, and filmed with great love (thank goodness it was eventually finished.) A brutal performance that will leave you feeling at the end that it was either filmed by a genius or a total pervert. Which are not necessarily mutually exclusive:)))) I really had a royal good time for an hour and a half, like I did with Dead Alive, so it deserves full marks.) I've yet to see Meet the Feebles, so I'm curious to see if it’s outdone by Bad Taste or by Dead Alive.)

Speak (2004)

angielski Speak is actually a very simple and linear story with no major surprises or twists. The whole thing actually hinges on the actors, specifically one actor, and that is Kristen Stewart. A drama with nothing (except Kristen) exceptional from an American high school setting on a well worn topic. 65-70%

Heavenly Creatures (1994)

angielski A brilliantly directed film. Almost every scene, every shot, has an incredible flair that shows Jackson's tremendous passion for the cause. With the use of sometimes very dynamic editing, "intrusive" camerawork, and unconventional musical/imaginative:))) inserts, the result is a supremely successful film, with which it is impossible (at least for me) to be bored even for a moment. In addition, the portrayal of the relationship between the two main protagonists is handled excellently. Some flaws could be found, but as I mentioned above – Jackson's sense of direction is so great that you will quickly forget any negatives. :))

The Fisher King (1991)

angielski A wonderful story in a somewhat "different" :))) but at the same time sympathetic, strangely playful, and above all confident show by Terry Gilliam. Under the baton of any other director, The Fisher King would have followed the established traditions of drama combined with romantic elements, but in Gilliam's rendition it is a very original affair, though quite strange for some. And Robin Williams is absolutely amazing.

Gangi Nowego Jorku (2002)

angielski The very opening action scene is extremely impressive, and the rest of the film impresses with spectacular sets, gorgeous costumes, excellent music, and of course the acting of the master Daniel Day-Lewis. In the end, this is a first-class historical spectacle that, under a less experienced director, would have ended up with the much-touted boredom and tedium due to its dense running time (which isn't actually bothersome). Moreover, both DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz can act well with good direction, which was confirmed here. And one more thing – Scorsese, with his perfect direction, manages to create a great "dirty" atmosphere in places, which adds to the already powerful overall experience. I haven't seen everything from Scorsese yet, but I dare to say that I will still rank "Gangs" very high after watching his other films.
