Nieśmiertelny (1986)

angielski A nice start to an even better fandom. Today, it’s an old hit, which I return to regularly, although I found it almost unwatchable after the year 2000. There's no point in addressing which formal aspects have aged and which haven't, or that the perfect happy ending virtually eliminated the possibility of a sequel. There are sequels and not all the ideas are bad. Queen's great soundtrack also helped a lot and of course so did the cast. "In the end, there can be only one."

Highlander: The Raven (1998) (serial)

angielski A great spin-off with the only possible main character to follow up Adrian Paul's excellent series. Elizabeth Gracen had established herself in previous years as the very popular supporting character Amanda, but unfortunately for the show itself her character was changed. To be clear, she's still the most entertaining immortal, but surrounded by new sidekicks she had to do it all again from the beginning. She's been given a polished image, a new mythology, an older friend, and a cop. For the first few episodes, the series was trying to find its style, and by the end of the series, I could only regret that the series was not given the green light for a sequel. Those who have doubts about my high rating should understand that I watched it in its original form and not as a rerun on Czech TV.

Nieśmiertelny III: Mag (1995)

angielski The Sorcerer is definitely not one of Highlander's worst films. Deborah Kara Unger and Mario Van Peebles were never able to act decently, but knowing the imbalance of the entire film series, it's not that bad of an experience. As usual, the flashbacks are one of the better aspects.

Highlander (1992) (serial)

angielski For six glorious years, Highlander was one of the top shows of the 1990s. Today, even after waking up from nostalgia, to its credit, it still works very well. In the early years after 2000, it seemed that it would continue to be unwatchable, but 10 years later, it appeared to have proven its patina sufficiently. It’s a quality multi-genre series that easily outshines all the films, including the first one. It features a plethora of interesting stories, main and secondary characters, ideas of all kinds... this is exactly how I imagine a job well done. I watch the reruns regularly.

Hrdinný kapitán Korkorán (1934)

angielski Vlasta Burian and his classic uniformed hero on his way to the 20th century. While we follow the escapades of the contemporary Adam Korkorán, who, by chance, passes himself off as a retired corvette captain, the real veteran of the proverbial Krieagsmarine finds himself perplexed.

Pobočník Jeho Výsosti (1933)

angielski Suzanne Marwille was given the role in this film as a wedding present and to compensate her for the fact that Lída Baarová was chosen to play in Lelíček in the Services of Sherlock Holmes instead of her. That’s a good thing. :) I like the film overall and I consider it a better Burian film from the first half of the 1930s. Lamač films are better overall, but this film also features Ella Šárková, Marie Grossová, Míla Reymonová and Helga Nováková, and I really love all of them. I also like the films in which Burian is in uniform.

Děvčátko, neříkej ne! (1932)

angielski It’s an odd idea to consider this film only in terms of Adina Mandlová’s debut. Hanka Vítová plays a bigger role in the film, but the true ideals are Jarmila Vacková - Morton, Otto Rubík, Eman Fiala, and Jožka Vanerová. On a pedestal is then the group of mannequins led by Eliška Pleyová, and it is through this fashion storyline that the story is most interesting. If, for example, The Girl from the Podskalí is the most interesting from a historical point of view because of the Prague locations that have not been preserved, Don't Say No, Girl is perfect for reconstructing how fashion was received at the turn of the 1920s and 1930s.

To neznáte Hadimršku (1931)

angielski This film is one of my childhood loves that helped me determine my life's calling. The congenial collaboration of Lamač, Frič, Burian, Rubík, Šlégl, Valentová, and Grossová is so dynamic that I find myself laughing through every rerun. The attentive viewer will also notice the musical theme from the previous film by Lamač, Frič, and Burian, which was led by Anny Ondra and called Him and His Sister. I recommend the German version as well. - - - A popular comedy with Vlasta Burian and Meda Valentová.

Lásky Kačenky Strnadové (1926)

angielski Given that it’s one of the very few Czech silent films on DVD, it’s quite a disappointment. Because given that there are only two Burians alongside Eroticon, the dramaturgy is highly undeveloped and only having more and more films could help out in this regard. Anything from Weteb or Kalos would be great. On the other hand, outside of Burian fans, nobody expected a miracle from The Loves of Kačenka Strnadová, but it's simply the adequate combination of Innemann, Kavková, and Burian. Meaning that it’s pleasant, rural, and substantial. However, they could have waited until more interesting films paved the way.

Svéhlavička (1926)

angielski An absurdly charming retelling of Eliška Krásnohorská’s novel, who achieved unprecedented success with her heroine in literature not only at the turn of the century. However, as we know, it was based on Emma von Rhoden's original 1883 novel "Der Trotzkopf." Unfortunately, the author never saw the premiere of the film.
