Smoking (2002)

angielski The idea wasn’t all together bad (I’d like a suit like that too) and Jackie does what he can to save the movie, but this movie just can’t be saved. A confused story, a bad bad guy, a really weird ending, computer effects etc. etc. I doubt that this movie would ever have been filmed without Jackie. Brings tears to your eyes. I like Jackie, and he doesn’t deserve this.

Gorączka (1995)

angielski Michael Mann wrote and directed something I’ve been wanting to see for a long time. He showed us precisely the line separating good and evil and the entire movie balances on that thin line. It isn’t clear for a long time who is good. Is anybody? Or is everybody good in their own way? Al Pacino certainly doesn’t come across as a positive hero and the same goes for De Niro. Even so, you find yourself crossing your fingers for them and the ending is incredibly nerve racking. Plus the action and mainly the big shootout is so wonderfully raw that your eyes are glued to the screen. If he manages to pull off something like it with Miami Vice, it’ll be Christmas in the summertime for me.

Raport mniejszości (2002)

angielski An excellent sci-fi crime movie that shows that Steven Spielberg is in better form than ever and Tom Cruise likewise. Breathtaking action scenes wrapped up in a story that makes you think about and follow the unraveling story with bated breath. The action scenes are absolutely top-notch. The part where John Anderton is being followed in the car factory is one of the best scenes ever to emerge in this genre. And of course Spielberg’s typical detachedness and gentle irony in places bordering on black humor. The vision of the year 2054 on one hand is captivating and on the other both desolate and terrifying. The gradual loss of freedom, commercials that address passers-by using their names, eye scanners at every step. Minority Report is a masterpiece with an amazing visual side (Kaminski is a genius), great music (Williams), brilliant directing (Spielberg) and excellent acting performances (Cruise, Sydow, Farrell). The only thing that I might fault Minority Report for is the last five minutes when the story fizzles out and slowly crawls toward the credits. 9/10

Zielona mila (1999)

angielski Stephen King is a genius. Frank Darabont is a genius. And whenever these two get together a perfect work of art comes to life that remains indelibly in the souls of those who see it. Similarly to The Shawshank Redemption, the story takes place in prison, more precisely in The Green Mile where those who were sentenced to death await execution. At the beginning of the story we meet old Paul Edgecombe who remembers the days of his youth and one of the prisoners. A person who had a wonderful gift. John Coffey (like coffee but spelled differently). And we become witnesses to one of the most touching story of all times.

Prognoza na życie (2005)

angielski A story of person who is trying to become what we all want to be. More successful, better and so on. The snippets of the ordinary life of Dave Spritz show the everyday problems which most of us know and everybody will find something that applies to them. Cage gave an excellent acting performance, as did Michael Caine. His “daddy" is just perfect. The Weather Man is a pleasant and a slightly untraditional comedy that entertains you but also makes you think about the hardship of our lives. By the way, have you noticed that this is the second movie with Cage in a short space of time where the hero is the narrator himself?

Uwolnić orkę (1993)

angielski An incredible film starring a killer whale. The first time I saw it (I couldn't have been more than seven) I was thrilled. Now I just remember those times.

Zbroja boga (1986)

angielski The first Jackie Chan movie I ever saw (the second was Police Story). I must say that I was over the moon and I remember to this day how I used to play at being Jackie and watching it over and over again on that old VHS. I was absolutely obsessed with it. Everything was perfect - the cars, the jokes, the plot, the jokes, just everything was perfect. Jackie is simply so cool and tough that he meant everything to me.

Epoka lodowcowa 2: Odwilż (2006)

angielski They screwed a slightly different, inoffensive story that is entertaining and makes you laugh. The wisecracks and dialogs are as amusing as last time, plus Scrat is put to much greater use and more interestingly and at the end he is unbeatable. A respectable little brother to part one which definitely is nothing to be ashamed of.

Alien Adventure (1999)

angielski Years ago, our class traveled to Prague to visit a trade fair. As an item of cultural refreshment, our teacher suggested that we go to take a look at the new super-duper IMAX mega-movie-theater, so we could take home some exciting experiences. I eagerly looked at the program to see what was playing. The choice was either Santa vs. the Snowman 3D or Alien Adventure 3D. Now you probably guessed what we went to see. I must say that I was fairly open minded and tried to enjoy all those 3D tricks, but that didn’t change anything about the fact that it looked like a tour through a poorly made computer game and that it gave me a headache in the end. Plus, I prefer 2D. I enjoyed Spider-Man 2 and Batman on the big screen much more.

Wielka bitwa Asteriksa (1989)

angielski Definitely the gloomiest Asterix. The atmosphere of doom and destruction may be too real at times, especially when I consider that this is really a kid’s movie. The humor (which is one of the best things about the movie) is mainly thanks to Getafix, who suffers from amnesia after being hit by Obelix's menhir. If I remember correctly The Big Fight was actually my first Asterix movie (as for the comic books, “Asterix and the Golden Sickle" was excellent).
