Mianhada, saranghanda (2004) (serial)

angielski Sorry, I Love You reminded me of A Love to Kill in many ways (incidentally I’ve learned that they have the same writer). This is also a story about revenge, despair, and yearning for "forbidden fruit". These two shows had in common, for example, that I didn't understand some of the actions of the hero and heroine. But at the same time, that's what I liked about it. The fact that they were different and had their own mindsets. Soo-jeong Im was great in the beginning. But towards the end, when it literally came down to desperate behavior and the characters started messing around, I didn't enjoy her as much. She lost her spirit. This was definitely accentuated by the fact that they dyed her hair black afterwards, which made her look pale. On the other hand, she gave a convincing portrayal of grief. I had a similar experience with the third wheel. At first I thought he was awfully cute, even despite being spoiled rotten, but by about halfway through I was fed up with him. So the only one who kept me going from start to finish was Ji-sub So. Revenge and hatred always bring pain. And he played his internal struggles brilliantly. All I'll say in closing is that he was different from what I imagined him to be, and he left a very deep impression on me. And so did the series itself. Every episode had suspense and big things happening. Tragically beautiful... 4.5 stars.

Život je život (2015)

angielski I liked this a lot. The whole family was pretty wild, but in a good way (when you're just watching it and not part of it). The filmmakers lightly poked fun at the common prejudices in Czech society. And it was funny, not lame. The only thing I didn’t enjoy much was František’s daydreaming. I would have shortened that or maybe cut it out completely (the poorly done car chases are boring). But otherwise good, really good.

Hanamizuki (2010)

angielski Wow, that was long. And yet almost nothing happened in those two hours. I've seen stories like this at least a hundred times. That's why you have to put something more into it to make it stand out from the rest. And that didn't happen here. Plus, their relationship seemed awfully cold to me. The actors were mediocre. The music was nice, but that's about it. This was definitely a bad choice for me... 2 stars.

Gashi (2014)

angielski I'm long past the stage where I can merely say I like Hyeok Jang as an actor. The truth is, lately I've been pretty obsessed with him. And if I were a bit more of a psychopath, I can pretty easily imagine that I could lose my mind over him the way the girl does. Okay, by the second half of the movie she was overdoing it a bit, but who knows what I'd be capable of if he was my teacher. :) I liked how such a calm film gradually became almost a thriller. There were some original and unexpected twists. Bo-ah Jo was very convincing in her role, and I'm definitely looking forward to more of her work. A strong 4 stars... And please take my review with a grain of salt. :)

Chuno (2010) (serial)

angielski It's clear that the success of this series is due to its excellent cast. I don't think I've seen more minor or major stars and familiar faces anywhere. That was probably one of the reasons why the series had so many episodes. Because when you get a cast like that together, I guess you can't not take advantage of it. Unfortunately, it does take away from the plot, which is quite drawn out in places, and the episodes where nothing happens at all are no exception. What keeps it afloat in such moments are the well-developed characterizations and the very above-average soundtrack. I don't really have anything to say about Hyeok Jang's performance. Just that I totally understand why there was such positive feedback for his role. All you have to do is look at how he runs, holds a dagger, rides a horse, or just looks at the world with contempt and sadness at the same time. I think he put everything into this role. The opposite was true for his castmate Da-hae Lee. If she hadn't been there, or if there had just been a picture of her instead, it would have come out exactly the same. When she laughed, I didn't believe her. When she cried, I didn't believe it either. She just didn't give anything extra. Fortunately, she was the only one, because the others played it down to the bone. Not to mention the absolutely fantastic fight scenes. As I've written before, the soundtrack is another strong point of the series. It was the one that made ordinary slaves into heroes for the viewer and gave their fight and revenge the right atmosphere. The Slave Hunters is much less sweet than I expected. The Slave Hunters simply is not a fairy tale. Still, I would recommend it to those with a sweet tooth. 4 stars.

Gwiazd naszych wina (2014)

angielski It's a shame that this film will find its place among my favorites, and yet I will probably never watch it again. Because Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort gave some of the most natural acting performances. That's why it's a shame, and why I won't be watching it again. Because if they hadn't been so great, I wouldn't be so taken with it. And I don't even have words for the story.

Kwaedo Hong Gildong (2008) (serial)

angielski Ji-hwan Kang and Yoo-ri Seong as a couple, that's a dream come true for me. I was expecting something completely different from the series, but I'm definitely not disappointed. In the first few episodes it seemed like it was going to be more of a comedy, but in the end the dramatic side prevailed and there were just the kind of twists and turns I like. In fact, I ended up with probably the most drama I've experienced with a historical series so far. As much as I don't like the occasional wacky interludes and characters in the series, here the comic side of it was absolutely perfect for me as well. More than once I happened to remember something when I was doing something else and started laughing so hard. I think Yoo-ri Seong in the role of Yi-nok entertained me the most. Her fall into the well, her arrow speed, and the way she and Gil-dong hunted tigers was awesome. And I enjoyed it mostly because this show makes fun of itself, doesn't take itself seriously, doesn't cover up its flaws, instead points them out and uses them to its advantage. There was only one character I didn't like, and that was Miss Eun-hye. She bothered me from the very beginning. The last six episodes were an incredible ride, and Yoo-ri has moved up the list of my favorites. I also have to point out to the well acted king and prince and the excellent soundtrack. 4.5 stars.

Yeohaengja (2009)

angielski I really haven't seen a film this excellently and sensitively made in a long time. Just the beginning, when you can't see the father's face properly, and then only a glimpse. I think somehow it could stay like that even in the memory of an abandoned child. Watching little innocent Jin-hee deal with betrayal from the person closest to her made my heart ache. The whole story is filmed from a child's point of view, so there are a lot of scenes that remain unexplained. But even that didn't bother me. Sometimes I don't understand how some child actors can play their roles so convincingly. And little Sae-ron gave me goosebumps at times. I just wonder what is going through her head when she's acting like that... 5 stars.

Gapdongi (2014) (serial)

angielski Gapdong, Gapdong, Gapdong... that's the name I'll have in my head for at least a few more days. And when I get it out, I'll think of it every time I hear "Rock, Paper, Scissors". The story sucked me in from the very first episode and kept my attention until the very end. This is mainly due to the well thought out and imaginative script full of interesting plot developments and excellent actors. As for the mistakes, I'm not an expert or a critic, so I probably missed most of them anyway. And even though some of them hit me in the eye now and then, I had no reason to dwell on them and thus spoil my overall enjoyment. Of the actors, I liked just about everyone, but most definitely Joon Lee. What he did there was absolutely unreal and cannot be described in words. Just an amazing performance. This time he outshined Sang-hyeon Yoon and other great actors. Dr. Maria was also an interesting character. I especially liked her grittier self. And I found Matilda extremely likable, who wouldn't give up on the worst person in the world. I'm going to miss them. 4.5 stars.

Naui sarang naui shinboo (2014)

angielski I had high hopes for this movie, so I won't hide my slight disappointment. After seeing the trailers, I was expecting a bit more comedy, and more romance. Except this isn't about a newly in love couple who just met and are having their most wonderful year. This story is about a couple who, after a few years, decide to seal their relationship and suddenly have to face the daily grind. And of course, understanding this love is much more difficult, complicated, and unfortunately less romantic. But the filmmakers have managed to express very nicely how difficult it is sometimes in a relationship. How two people who loved each other sweetly before can suddenly get on each other's nerves and how difficult it is to realize why you are in the relationship in the first place. This aspect is handled really well and you can see yourself in it. So even though I wasn't belly laughing, it was an enjoyable movie that I'll definitely come back to. I just hope Jeong-seok Jo doesn't annoy me so much next time. I'd hate to lose my taste for him. 3.5 stars.
