Porwanie (2012)

angielski A good film about what it's like and what happens when you're attacked by Somali pirates. Certainly, the fact that it has an almost documentary-like quality can be appreciated. On the other hand, this aspect wasn't enough to compel me to enjoy watching the film or to consider it truly powerful. Yes, it is good.

Kanał (1957)

angielski I don't have Polish cinema on my radar as much as other cinemas, but it must be acknowledged that Poland had its periods when it was strong. This is represented by the film Canal, which depicts the Polish resistance hiding in the sewers of Warsaw. Yet it is a very good human drama that ties together the political and historical situation.

Kahaani 2 (2016)

angielski The following happens to me quite often with Indian films: The first installment is a successful film, but the second one simply loses much of what the first had, and it's just not the same. That's quite normal even with American films. And so even Kahaani 2 isn't as thrilling, gritty, and good a film as its first installment, which managed to keep you on edge.

Year of the Yahoo! (1972)

angielski Year of the Yahoo! is a pleasant Herschell-like film that incorporates aspects of Herschell's work, and it probably won't appeal to many people. There is, however, social criticism, and a bit of nudity, although really just a hint, there's the bizarreness that is most associated with Herschell Gordon Lewis, and there's also the bad stuff you expect from his films. It's a good film in that respect.

Greater Elephant (2012)

angielski An intriguing example of something more alternative from India, where at first glance, it might seem like one of those silly comedies with characters that aren't funny at all. However, this time they managed to create bizarre characters and show that even a dialogue-driven film can work in an Indian context, although it definitely won't appeal to everyone.

Kahaani (2012)

angielski In my opinion, one of the few examples of Indians proving that they are capable of making a thriller that is truly serious and suspenseful. Sure, a woman with a child in her womb is a bit cliché, but here it's executed well right from the start. Moreover, there's the killer who occasionally appears, and he's truly unsettling in his apparent ordinariness.

Sobowtór (1980)

angielski By this time, Akira Kurosawa already knew very well what to do when he wanted to create a powerful scene. And I thought it was precisely from Kurosawa's visual storytelling that Scorsese drew inspiration for the film Silence. Kagemusha is a magnificent film, yet focused on characters, although the battle scenes can truly awe.

Jurassic School (2017)

angielski Although it's an incredibly predictable film with hardly any original ideas, just a children's film where everything is black and white, I have to highlight one thing, and that's the use of an animatronic dinosaur puppet. Sure, not in all the scenes, but at least in the details, that made me very happy.

Julia (2008)

angielski An acting concert of Tilda Swinton, who can incredibly surprise. The director was aware of where his strong weapon lay, and so he used it to the fullest, knowing that in the story, it is sometimes a bit rough. He doesn't know if he wants it to be Tarantino-esque or completely serious, so the viewer can't really decide either, which spoils the experience for them.

Julia (1977)

angielski I can't help it, but this essentially psychological film about dependence on another woman, which leads the main character into rather uninteresting situations, even though it occasionally tries to add some tension, simply didn't entertain me. The acting isn't bad, but neither actress stands out for me here. This was just average for me. And I'm a nice guy.
