Necrotongue

After watching Season 1, I must say I liked it a lot. The only exception was Episode 3 which made me think I would die of boredom if I ever set foot in a forest again. Another drawback was the low budget. It wouldn't have been a problem if it hadn't made certain scenes look amateurish. But that's as far as my criticism goes. The atmosphere was perfectly grim, there was decent action, and the creators managed to incorporate into the story the typical church obscurantism, intrigue and an atypical protagonist.

The season finale kept me engaged from start to finish. There was plenty of scheming and intrigue, the creators managed to gather enough extras for a decent battle, and the ending was crafted perfectly to set up the next season. Overall, I’m very satisfied.

The penultimate episode was close to five stars. The first half was packed with action and executed brilliantly. However, the second half slowed down in the marshy grounds around the Severn River, bogged down by endless debates about God that frayed my nerves. Thankfully, Uhtred the Godless, our notorious arsonist and ship destroyer, saved the day.

This episode kept me as satisfied as the previous one. The atmosphere was spot on, the plot maintained its pace, and I got my fill of action, intrigue, and treachery. However, the Cornish costumes almost made me howl in despair. I was ready to give it just four stars, but the way the creators dealt with the church authorities and decrees earned it a fifth star from me.

The creators really stepped up their game. The atmosphere retained its delightfully gloomy tone, the plot was packed with intriguing events, and we got some solid scheming, great action, and a few emotional outbursts. No boredom here.

Luckily, this episode was a complete turnaround from the previous one. The story had a much better pace, and instead of pointless, boring conversations in the woods, we got some intense scheming and intrigue. It was a nice distraction from the budget constraints, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This episode didn't quite hit the mark for me. The atmosphere was still solid, but the story felt stagnant. Uhtred and Brida kept retreating to the woods to discuss the same things over and over, which got pretty boring at times.

A decent pilot episode. It was drenched in a grim atmosphere, though I was surprised at how little violence there was, given the historical setting. As an introduction to the story and characters, it worked well, even though the budget was noticeably tight.

I happily rated the fourth episode of the fourth season with four stars, because I enjoyed myself after a long time at Frosty Mysteries. The creators finally avoided bathroom humor, which was so successful in the last episodes, instead they caught my attention with a well-founded investigation and great choreography by Vlastík Plamínek.

I have to admit that I was expecting a drop in quality compared to Season 1, but I was wrong. The creators did make some changes by focusing more on interpersonal relationships this time around but it was done in a way that deserves nothing but praise. Which is not to say that I'm not interested in British politics. I'm very pleased so far and I'm looking forward to Season 3.
